I bought this switch shortly after I got my lathe. After a week of use, the switch failed. Sent it back to Powermatic, they sat on it for a month before I had to call and light a fire under them. Confused technician said he would send a new one out to me. I received back the same switch, which had a bunch of RTV gooped on it. After using it for two days, it failed again. My advice is make your own. I am going to send it back to CPO.
I bought this switch right after getting my 3520 lathe. I wanted the safety and convenience of a remote switch. I use this switch almost every time I use my lathe, and I'm on my lathe nearly 5 days a week, and the switch has shown no issues for me on its reliability. I've heard alot of stories of others having problems, and I expect I'll eventually have to disassemble it to clean contacts or replace. Meanwhile, this is an excellent addition and I would miss it to not have it, especially when doing work that you don't want to reach around to main switch to shut the power off. I'd recommend it.
I have not yet used this switch for an emergency shut off, which is the reason I purchased it. I will be happy if I never have to use it. The switch sits conveniently where I placed it with its magnetic base near the tail stock of my lathe. I bought it solely for the purpose of having an emergency shut off at the other end of the lathe. It was easy to install and I feel better knowing it is there if I need it.
A remote switch on the Powermatic lathe allows turning it on/off without reaching around the spinning work so it is both a safety item and a convenience item. I place it low on the right side which allows me to turn the machine off with my knee if I need both hands near the work like when making a through cut on a spindle or box. It is very annoying that the switch comes with no installation instructions. The product spec shows a wiring guide, but it is hard to follow. Luckily there is some info on YouTube, but the manufacturer should provide this information.
Is there anywhere on the web to see how to wire in this switch I bought one and it has no instructions !!! Pay big money for the lathe and extras seems like the would send a wiring diagram. Any info would be great Thank you.
