Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
The PM2800 is a solid drill press. I use for a range of applications including woodworking to just jumping on and drilling a hole for random needs. The motor is plenty powerful enough for most uses and the variable speed option is outstanding and quite the spoiler. The large drilling table system is great. The only issue I have ever experienced with this press is the chuck and arbor falling out of the spindle a couple of times but I am assuming that is because I did not have them clean enough for a perfect match fit. Overall I have been very impressed with this drill press and would highly recommend to anyone who wants a great shop tool for a variety of uses.

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
The main reason that I wanted this drill press was so I did not have to constantly change belts when changing speeds. This is everything I asked for and more. This is a solid machine. The laser was dead on and no adjustments were needed. I use many different types of bits which require a variety of speeds and this tool saves me a ton of time. The only problem I have had was when I put the largest forstner bit in, after finishing I am unable to turn and release the bit by hand..I have to use a wrench. Not sure why it gets so tight as I have no problems with any of my smaller bits. If I were to make one suggestion, I would like the light to be a bit brighter, but that is minor

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
Best drill press I have ever used for woodworking. It has all the power I need/want and is designed for wood. The fence, table and variable speed makes this a true gem. On my old drill press I had to make a table, and fence to make it useful. All the others I looked at seemed more suited to metalworking.

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
I have owned this Drill Press for about six months now and have been very satisfied. I love the fully adjustable speed control with a digital readout to show you exactly how fast it is turning. Along with the laser guide and led work light. I would recommend this product to anyone. My only issue is with the adjustable fence. The knobs are too close to the edge of the fence and make it hard to turn, they should provide a little more room.

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
I really wanted variable speed control without having to change belts. This press delivers that over all the speed range that I need. Long stroke and the hand wheel can be mounted on the left or right. The keyless chuck works nice and holds very small bits well. The laser guides and the little light come in handy sometimes. I wish there was a way to lock the table from the front after adjustment, but I have never seen this done on other machines of this type. I don't use the table extensions or fence. Just not used to having them and they seem get in the way. I fastened the base to a larger piece of plywood for stability and I can slide it around when necessary. Overall a quality machine but I found the design and machining on the cast table tilt mechanism to be sloppy. Would be improved by adding steel sleeves for pin registration of table tilt and an adjustment for front to back tilt to get table square to boring axis.

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
In contrast to my previous variable-speed drill presses, this one makes it so dead easy to change speed that I don't anymore operate with some single middling speed that is more often wrong than right. Fire up the 2800, move the handle, read the exact speed, and bingo! You're there. Plenty of power, and the keyless chuck doesn't slip with even the largest of drills. My previous drill press comparatively spoiled me, however, in three ways. First, the 2800 is noisy, owing to the continuously variable belt drive mechanism. (Easy enough to live with, in view of its wonderful speed-changing advantage.) Second, I really would like for there to be a quill lock, and the 2800 doesn't have one -- or at least, I have not been able to locate it. Third, although the depth stop is billed as "rapid change", it actually is not. You have to spin two nuts that lock against one another, one at a time, to get to a new depth position. This is not a huge deal, because I think I will be able to adapt that similar part from another manufacturer (Powermatic does not want other guys mentioned here, so I won't mention that their name is found early in the Greek alphabet.) But go look for a split-nut adjustment mechanism, and if you get the right one, you can replace the Powermatic depth stop at nominal cost. It's a completely minor expense compared with the price of the 2800 and will make it substantially easier and quicker to use. (If I could mention price it would be about a sawbuck.) After a year of use I am very happy with the Powermatic 2800, and although it is a bit pricey I have no regrets on the purchase.

Comments about Powermatic PM2800 18-in 1-Phase 1-Horsepower 115/230 Volt Variable Speed Drill Press:
Powermatic doesn't tell you that this shouldn't be on a mobile base (it's tippy)until you read the manual. Much improved stability if you add an empty kitty litter bucket filled with pebbles. Also, drill press squeals at lower speeds
